Can I really be a light on a hill?

How often do we judge ourselves by our failures rather than our true identities? I wonder how our lives would change if we gauged our self-worth on how God sees us instead of how we see ourselves.
Where we think we are so set in our ways we can never change, God tells us that “therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
We think God could never love us because we are not good enough when the truth is that “we are saved by grace as a gift, not because of our performance. God saved you by his grace when you believed. You can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Ephesians 2:8
I have some favorite verses and they tell us of what we are capable of in Christ. I can only speak from a woman’s perspective obviously and from a personal perspective but I have a sneaking suspicion that this tends to be a universal problem. We don’t think we have anything worthwhile to give that our actions don’t make a bit of difference.
It took me awhile to figure out that God sees me in a totally different way than I see myself. I look at myself through eyes of betrayal, rejection and the hurts born of life in this world. God sees me through eyes of unfailing love.
However through this journey I have found the truth. I have a new life from God through Jesus Christ. I set aside my wrong beliefs as I step into the spotlight of his unfailing love. I set aside my wrong beliefs and accept His light and let Him shine through me.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14
“Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.” Philippians 2:15
“Light shines on the Godly, and joy on those whose hearts are right.” Psalm 97:11
“You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness.” 1 Thessalonians 5:5
How wonderful it is to know that I radiate light where ever I go in fact I emit light and joy. I shine like the brightest star on the darkest night, I am a daughter of the light and we do not belong to the darkness any longer!
Go forth and shine.
