Vanishing Truth

Vanishing Truths
We have all seen it many times.
I’ll give you an example. I sit in an interview and the person across from me swears to me that children are all they have ever wanted to do, it is their life’s dream and they would do anything to have this job.
Then the winds change a little bit.
You pick the scenario, the boss tells them to change the way they do something, or they are disciplined, or maybe it ends in dismissal from the job.
Quick and fiery tempers rage.
Suddenly you find yourself warding off vicious gossip, vindictive actions and more than a little bit of hate and discontent.
It is sad to watch a person wage war against the very organization that they swore was their dream job and calling not too long ago.
Or even worse, they post vicious attacks on Facebook and of course the final slap in the face, they block you totally. Ok I’m being sarcastic about Facebook but you get the point. We have all acted this way at one time or another.
I think that God must see that more often than we do. God is a good companion as long as things are going our way and life is free and easy. Let the going get tough however and threats and grumbling are free flowing from our lips as our tempers flare.
Instead of swearing on God we end up swearing at God.
The thing is, God’s truth didn’t vanish, our version of the truth did. It is pretty easy to be deceived by Satan and there is no better opportunity for Satan to gain a foothold than things aren’t going our way.
It seems pretty unfair that the God we love, worship and walk hand in hand with every day would let the storms of life fall on us like they do. How could God let ones as righteous as we are suffer so much?
We stand and watch as our world is falling apart and we are powerless to stop it. Sometimes we feel the only control we have is lashing out and all too often God is at the receiving end of our verbal tantrum.
When someone has hurt or offended us we feel justified in losing our tempers. The question isn’t so much Why and much as Why ME God?
This kind of anger is never justified as it is selfish and the whole object is to hurt someone in the same fashion we have perceived they hurt us
We turn to complaints and criticism instead of prayers and praise. That’s pretty bold and brazen don’t you think? You start in the dark and alone, the darkness and loneliness are probably going to be your only companions until your attitude changes!
It is not our job to punish those who offend us, read Ephesians 4:31, let all bitterness, indignation and wrath be banished from you.
Have faith dear friends, God didn’t bring us here to leave us hanging. God created everything, this situation included, we aren’t in charge, never have been, never will be. We can blame God, complain, and get mad over what is happening. It probably isn’t going to change a thing.
Instead of foolishly splashing our temper tantrums all over the place we can trust that God knows what He is doing and simply give Him our hurt, pain and bitterness. Stop being unwilling to trust God with situations that hurt.
He can and he will give us peace, comfort and strength. His plan is perfect and has been for a very long time.

Ephesians 431

Spiritual Warfare

Spiritual Warfare, like so many other things I think Satan works overtime to keep us from taking the magnitude of this seriously.

Have you ever stopped to think that although this cosmic conflict is raging in the invisible spiritual realm it is given earthly details and becomes personal as it is played out here in the visible realm? In other words, although the roots of the war is played out in the invisible spiritual realm and you cannot see it, the effects of the war are all too often clearly evident.

Let me back up a minute however. Let’s look at Ephesians 6:10-12. We are all familiar with it, but let’s look again. Particularly verse 12.

Ephesians 6:10-12New International Version (NIV)

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Paul says our battle is not against flesh and blood, but “against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

So it isn’t about our neighbor, our co-worker, our family, and our spouse, our health, or anybody or anything on this earth actually. Humans are simply the conduits of the battle raging in the spiritual realm. If I am reading this and understanding it correctly, if it is going on in your physical, visible realm, it is rooted in the spiritual, invisible realm.

It could be that we are fighting the wrong battle? No matter how hard we try or what we try, if we do not know how to navigate and connect with the spiritual realm and the help we can find there, we are not going to win this battle. If we try to fix our problems with worldly solutions it is not going to work for long.

It was also interesting to read Ephesians 1:3. It tells us that Jesus Christ has “blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”

Sooooooo, everything God is ever going to do for us, every spiritual blessing, every promise, every gift, every hope is already deposited in the heavenly realm and is waiting with our name on it. If it is waiting in the heavenly realm means it is eternal and not temporal because they are from Christ’s spiritual realm and not this very temporary earthly realm in which we live.

Satan would have us believe this is not so.

Now look at Ephesians 1:19-20New International Version (NIV)

19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,

Oh praise God for His wisdom, not only are our blessings waiting for us with our names written on them, but guess what, Jesus is waiting there also.

So when we get bogged down in the fight, when we are too tired to go on and feel there is no winning this war, grab onto the little package with your name on it. Unwrap it and live it.

The Love of God

You know, a lot of the time it seems that we humans really don’t like ourselves that much.  If we hold ourselves with such contempt it makes me wonder how in the world God loves us so much?

Is it just me that wonders this stuff?

Rich Mullins said it so perfectly, when we are hurting and life just isn’t going well people like to say everything will be ok because God loves you……………so what…………God loves everybody and our lives are still a mess. That comment really struck me as almost brilliant, in a perverted sort of way.

When we come to the end of our days are we going to be able to say with all honesty that we knew the depth of God’s love for us?

Think about it.

How many of us can let go of enough control in our lives to experience the true depths of God’s love? Do we have the capacity to understand the multi-dimensional, multi-layered, depth and width of a love like God has for us. Are we brave enough to experience that kind of love?

I have thought a lot about hope and faith in the last week or so and I have come to the conclusion that the love of God is not always apparent to us but just because we can’t see, feel or touch it doesn’t mean it isn’t there and doesn’t mean it isn’t real.

Letting the true depths of God’s love wash over us is an act of faith I think, it is believing God loves us, living like God loves us even when it is hard to discern that love. We are finite beings believing in an infinite love. That is difficult at times.

I have to break it down to what I know (you know, the research thing).

This infinite God has intervened personally for me, He became finite (human) and walked the same world I live in. He not only walked under the same sun, moon and stars as I do, He gave all that up and died for me. The kicker is He lived a pure, sinless life and died for me, who certainly never has and never will live a sinless life.

Jesus didn’t die a peaceful death surrounded by people who loved Him. Agony doesn’t even begin to describe what He went through.

It is so often said that God gave his only son for us, but I think that is the biggest understatement of all time. When I stop to think of the real depth and width of that gesture I start to get an inkling of His love for me. He reached down from heaven and touched my life personally with the blood of his Son.

I read somewhere and never thought of it to much until tonight…………that the love God has given us is not a philosophical observation or some scientific concept. It is so much more than that, it is a living, breathing thing that joins us with our Lord.

I don’t think we can ever hope to even begin to understand the depth of a love like that. Do I believe He loves me like that? Yea I do because I can feel His breath on my shoulder when He whispers in my ear “I love you my child not in spite of who you are but because of who you are. You are a child of the Most High. “

I dare you to believe it.

  1. Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
    And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
    Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.Love of God

Satan is real

Satan is real.
When we become Christians we tend to think that life is now going to be an uneventful road strewn with roses to smell and our life will be free and easy from here on. You generally don’t associate words like discouragement, pain, disappointment, warfare, destruction, with a life as a Christian.
However the truth is when you receive Christ you not only become a new creature, you gain an adversary, Satan. Make no mistake, the empire that Satan rules has a strategy and it is evil. This evil empire is mentioned in the Bible. 1 Peter 5:8 tells us to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. “
Wow, that seems pretty clear and to the point. Satan does not care who he comes after, he just wants to prevent us from enjoying our freedom in Christ. He wants to prevent anyone who is threatening his territory and trying to advance the Kingdom of God. I think it is a pretty safe bet that if you have a calling from God to go forth and spread the good news, Satan is going to do whatever he can to prevent that from happening.
I don’t know about you, but that is kind of scary to me and definitely not what I signed on for. It reminds me of the one phrase I hear at work (and tends to upset me) I’m not paid enough to do that. As Christians it would seem that “it’s not our job” to fight Satan.
It makes me want to hunker down under my blanket in a corner somewhere and stay there. At times it gets bad enough that you feel like it might be simpler to shut down whatever ministry you have going or whatever heavenly work you are doing in the hopes that Satan will back off and the attacks will stop.
That is just what Satan wants you to do.
Just as the Bible tells us that Satan is walking around looking to devour us, we are given some pretty awesome and just as potent tools for fighting. Satan may be a roaring lion but we are given full armor to bring the beast under control.
“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.” (Ephesians 6:17-18)
No one said this journey would be easy and rest assured, at times, it won’t. But we can go on counter attack and declare God’s word and promises as our own, we can assert who we are in Christ and we can confidently proclaim our victory. “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn.” (Isaiah 54:17)
When Satan comes as we surely know he will, rest in the closeness and the presence of our Lord God. These attacks won’t last forever, nothing here on earth does. Pick up your Sword of the Spirit which is the word of God and pursue closeness to Jesus that will offer the only true refuge we need.

What if there was a test available to show us God is real?

To a lot of people the thought of God is ambiguous, fuzzy, mysterious and not quite real. He not only doesn’t seem real to some but seems more a concept, a vague idea and a theory based on hopes and dreams not fact and reality.

They try to rationalize God in a common sense way when in actuality that is impossible, you cannot rationalize God because He is not a common being, not in any sense of the word.  I have said it before and will say it again, it is hard to believe in what you cannot see, touch, talk to or feel, I understand the difficulty of that.

There is not a test to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that God exists.  Too bad there is not some sort of dip stick type of thing that we could hold heavenward and watch it glow or something, but there isn’t. Fortunately, some believe anyway, and they are blessed (John 20:29). Sadly enough however, some live life in denial that there is a supreme being, or some live on the fringes, not quite disbelieving but not fully believing either.  2 Corinthians 5:7 tells us that we walk by faith, not by sight but not all do It does seems a worthy goal to strive for don’t you think?

That is where, for me the difficulties start, we can’t see, or talk to God so we begin to plan our lives with no help from God, not stopping to think that the God we are excluding is the God who makes it possible for us to live our lives in the manner we planned. The result of lack of belief is ultimately failure.

Another thing we fail to take into consideration, or let me rephrase that, another thing I fail to take into consideration at times is the fact that God knows me like no other person, in fact He knows me better than I know myself, yet I still tend to discount the kind help He can provide in an individualized fashion that is unique to me. Do you know what kind of money I pay for that kind of help in the job I do? It is a whole line item in my budget! The fact God provides us that intensive, individualized service free is amazing and humbling. Personal attention of that kind is nothing short of an amazing love.

I run myself ragged trying to achieve what He can accomplish with a blink of His eye. It is true that I have within me what it takes to achieve success in this life, but it is nothing born of me, it is the presiding power of my Savior Jesus Christ. The scripture Philippians 4:16-3 fills me with joy this morning.

…………………and so I ride

Devotional verses this morning were Psalms 107:1, Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His faithful love endures forever, and the armor of God scriptures, Ephesians 6:10-18 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power……………

This might not sound significant to you but believe me with what is going on in my life right now, those scriptures are exactly what I need and the timing, as usual, is perfect. This morning I have answered prayer to be thankful for and the armor of God to rely on when necessary.

Let me regress just a bit, when researching the armor of God one thing stands clear, Satan does wage a spiritual battle whether we choose to believe it or not. It seems that we sometimes like to ignore the fact that in fact, there is a war going on and that makes us easy prey. I also think that the true nature of Satan and the lengths he will go to in this war are total

The same could be said of Satan, and those whom he opposes. Many of his victims do not even know there is a war going on. They make easy prey. Christians should know that we are in the midst of a great spiritual struggle, although many seem not to believe it. And even more distressing is the fact that many who consider themselves “in the war” do not understand the nature or viciousness  of Satan’s schemes, of the weapons which he employs, or of the weapons which God has provided for our defense.

It is one thing to read about God’s power, it is quite another to rely on it. Oh here we are back to this trust thing, go figure. Satan has one goal, to defeat those who love God. When we turn to God, we automatically and definitely gain an enemy, Satan. It is not a battle we can avoid or run from, but it is a battle we are given the means to stand and fight, if we choose to. It won’t do any good to hide our heads in the sand or ignore this war, it rages whether we believe it, ignore it or run from it. Yes, we are assured of certain victory but just as certain we are assured of struggles on this earth. I chose to stand on Christ my rock. So I guess this didn’t go anywhere near where I was planning to go when I started writing, as is often the case. Though I am thankful beyond words for some reason this is what flowed out of me this morning. More to come…………DottieChrist my rock

Not where I was planning to go but this is what flowed out of me this morning……………
