Fake News

Fake news, we have all heard the term. It is everywhere. The trouble is that when you hear something often enough, it becomes gospel truth. I love the quote “A lie can fly half way around the world while the truth is still putting on its boots.”Lies certainly do fly quickly in the modern world of the internet and social media. The trouble is that fake news spreads like a contagious illness regardless of the truthfulness of the content.

I think that Christians are just a susceptible to fake news as anyone else. There are many false doctrines out there that are taken as gospel truth. This can get dangerous very quickly as it is a proven fact that we tend to pay attention to beliefs that we already hold. We seek people who hold like minded beliefs. Even when new information is presented that contradicts the beliefs that we are holding, we resist that information and double down on proving we are right instead of searching for the real truth.

This should concern us for a couple of reasons. People usually practice resistance to anything that goes against what they currently believe are much less likely to listen to what we have to share. Realize that those we are to share with are often taking in what we are sharing with a doubting heart.

Second, we have to make darn sure that the news we are sharing is not fake news.

When it comes to fake news versus the truth of God, we have an enemy that is a master deceiver. Satan is the ultimate liar and the father of all lies. Make no mistake, every false religion, every cult, every misguided philosophy and every thought that is opposed to God, is authored by Satan himself.

Satan has but one goal, to destroy that which is of God..

Our message should be about the faith and hope we have in Jesus Christ. Our message should proclaim the great love our Savior has for us.

Just as we are working to share the good news of what Jesus did for us, Satan is working to spread fake news.

We must become unstoppable crusaders for the truth. God is the source of all truth. God is our foundation in a world run afoul with the lies of Satan.

This means we go the extra mile and we must spent as much time communing with God and in the Word of God as it takes to make sure we know the news we are championing is based on true Godly foundations.

The real truth, the absolute truth of God must be boldly proclaimed and preached by us, His crusaders.

Lets get out there and spread some Good News!

A Silly Story But Is It Your Story

A silly story, but is it your story?
A lawyer had to distribute what was left of an estate to a client’s beneficiary. It was a huge estate, over 100 million dollars were to go to the lucky man. The will stipulated that the lawyer was to try to deliver the remains of the estate for a period of 6 months only and if the man could not be contacted and connected within that time the estate would be forfeited and go to a local non profit charity.

After going and knocking on the beneficiaries door three times a week for six months and being told to go away as he, the beneficiary was to busy to talk to him, the lawyer was forced to turn the estate over to the non profit.

The beneficiary lost a vast fortune because he was to busy, afraid, stubborn, etc to answer the knock on his door.

Yes it is a silly story with just a breath of truth, but is it your story?

I am willing to bet that there are a lot of us who have heard God knocking on our door and have ignored or reasoned our way out of answering. Anything and everything in our lives take precedence over that small but insistent call on our heart.

It is not that we are just busy, it is that we are afraid to step out of our nice comfortable box.

It is knowing that answering that knock could well inconvenience us as we have never been inconvenienced before

It is knowing that we might be asked to pack up our nice comfortable and familiar life and move to surroundings that are totally unfamiliar and very uncomfortable.

It is knowing that we may be called to leave something or somewhere that we are comfortable when we are A-Ok with where we are and have no desire to leave.

The fact is that God will call us to leave something in order to make room for a new something that He has prepared for us. He may not give us a clear image of where He is taking us, He may simply say follow me.
If we never answer the knocking on the door we could well miss out on the blessing of our life.
Before we can move to the greatness that God has prepared there may be an essential ending, if we are prepared for that and if we are trusting God, we simply say, ok. There is a time for departure, even if we don’t know to where the road leads.
The way we look at it makes all the difference in the world. Take your eyes off the world and lift them heavenward. If we recognize that surrendering to an essential ending helps us to grasp the freedom and completeness that we can only get by following God, then we are wise, truly free and living in the grace and wisdom of God.
When we tire of the game of tug of war and you are weary of holding onto the old for dear life simply lift one finger, then another, and before you know it, you will feel God taking that burden from you and you will find peace.
It is quite possible we hear God telling us to move but we can’t seem to figure out where he wants us to move to. Well there is a time for departure even when there is no certain place to go. God will reveal the map to where you are going. He will show you, even if it is one small step at a time.
Don’t ignore God knocking on your heart. It will probably come at the most inopportune and inconvenient time imaginable. There will be a thousand things that will seem much more important than answering God’s call and most will seem a lot less scary. But don’t lose your inheritance because you ignored the one who took the time to seek you out and knock for entrance.

My Weakness/His Power/My Victory

A Time For Everything

A Time for EverythingECC.3:1 There is a time for everything,

and a season for every activity under the heavens:
The secret to knowing the peace that God offers is to discover, accept and appreciate that God is the only one with perfect timing.

Being a child of God is amazing because it means that no matter what season of life we find ourselves in, we can choose to celebrate and honor God in the midst of it.

We can make a choice to grow in the fullness of God and recognize the wondrous season God has plopped you in. As you are appreciating the season, no matter what it is, you are becoming more like your Creator.

We all have our favorite seasons.

Some like the new beginnings that spring offers.

Summer is a favorite of others because of the opportunity to enjoy long sunny days.

Fall can bring people happiness because of cooler temperatures, colorful leaves and bountiful crops.

Still others love winter for blazing fires, warm clothes and snuggle blankets.

EVERY SEASON IS HANDCRAFTED BY GOD FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, the season you are experiencing is no different.

Some seasons are more fun and comfortable than others. Some we enjoy, some not so much. But each season provides an opportunity to learn something more about ourselves and our God.

If we weather the storm, we sometimes get to see our God reveal himself as miraculous and wonderful right before our eyes. .

We don’t always get to choose the seasons we experience in life, but we can choose to know that God is there with us.

There are times we simply don’t understand the season we are in. However, knowing God trumps knowing answers.

No matter the season bestowed upon you. Take a moment to thank God and ask Him to reveal Himself to you.

Don’t Stifle the Holy Spirit

ABC’s of Faith
1 Thes 5:19
Don’t stifle the spirit.
The Holy Spirit is a fire burning inside each of us. That fire can be a steady, bright guiding beacon or a soft glow in a dimly lit room. The fire can also be stifled into an unsteady flickering and inconsistent smolder that ebbs and flows in an unpredictable fashion.

The Holy Spirit wants to articulate himself in all we do. Oftentimes however, we do not allow the Spirit to be seen in what we do with our lives. In fact there are times we douse the fire with water by doing what we know full well is wrong or not doing what we are being prompted to do.

One thing is certain. Normally, a fire is not quenched by accident. When we are camping and it is time to go to bed we take definite steps to make sure the fire is completely out and will not burst into flames during the night. The last thing we want is for a storm to blow in and for the sparks from our fire to blow all over the campground and start other fires outside our fire ring. So we take steps to make sure the fire is completely out.

I am relatively certain it is safe to say that our inner fires go out from neglect or because someone takes the necessary steps to put them out.

How do we put that fire in us out every single day?

This is how.

Disobedience, criticism, sin that we just can’t seem to let go, bitterness, unforgiveness, no compassion, gossip in any form, these things will stifle the Holy Spirit as surely as if we drowned the fire with gallons and gallons of water. As detrimental as those things are, the real dousing of the fire comes when we know we are ignoring God’s call, the real dousing comes with repeated refusals to do anything about these things.

Surely the biggest way to put that inner fire to bed for good is to say NO to God.

We must answer when God calls. But we all know that often the call that God gives is met with a resounding answer from us that goes something like this. Seriously God? Do you know who I am and what I am doing here? You cannot ask me to do this now, I can’t, sorry I am doing too much good where I am, catch me next round, we will talk then.

Without even realizing it we have just lost time, opportunity and possibly even lost life. Life will go on to be sure but in a much more difficult way.

If we answer when God calls and obey, the Spirit’s fire will burn strong in our hearts. It is like adding wood to the campfire and watching it bring light to the surrounding darkness.

The actual fire may be contained in a fire ring but the evidence of your light can be seen in the whole campground of your life and I guarantee you people will be drawn to your light.

So let the sparks of the Holy Spirit fly and watch as those embers drift away and ignite the waiting, watching and listening bystanders at your campfire with the same fire that burns inside us.

The End of the Conversation

The end of the conversation went like this. “God bless you”, which was answered by “He already did!” Both parties then went on their way and if I had to bet I would say that neither gave a second thought to how the phrase “He already did” was so abundantly true.
By not acknowledging our blessings every single day we might as well be saying ‘just where and when did He bless me, I am not seeing it”
Ouch, that must hurt God when it is so perfectly obvious that we are so very blessed. We like to keep God in the box we have fashioned for Him as it pertains to our lives. We love to tell others, God has got this, let Him do it, while we are stuffing Him back into the box we have given Him in our lives. With God securely in His box it is easy to miss the everyday blessings.
We can continue to ignore the blessings heaped on us but I wonder just what we are missing out on when we refuse to let God into what constitutes the whole of our lives.
Look around you, blessings abound, no matter your circumstances, God is there. Are you missing the blessings? Are you walking right by the blessing because it is not conventional or it does not look the way you thought it would look?
Are you missing the blessing because you have preconceived ideas of what your life should look like and how it should progress? We must remember that God uses unorthodox methods to bring about extraordinary results.
Oh, He can follow the status quo but as often as not, He does not. God is wonderfully unorthodox and will use whatever means He needs to bring you into line with Him.
Look around you and allow the sense of wonder that only God can generate to permeate you. Let God out of His box because to be narrow or single minded could very well mean that you will miss the best of God.
Open the lid, let God know that you are on board when He works in your life, when He works in His time, with the people He chooses and in His way. Open that box and watch the light penetrate the darkness, watch the light change your world.
God is blessing you, God is answering our prayers, it just may not be in the way we expected, however that does not mean He is not doing it. God will get you exactly where you are supposed to be. You can count on it, I promise.

Journey vs destination vs journey vs destination vs journey vs destination

I am thinking about a couple of popular quotes this morning.
“It’s the journey, not the destination.” That seems to be a trendy quote especially among the motorcycle crowd.
The other is “don’t confuse your journey with your destination.”
While an argument can be made for both quotes I think rather more to the point is, always remembering the correct way to your final destination.
Each of us are on a journey to a destination. Not to confuse things further but you have to take your journey to achieve your destination. Each journey is individually unique in a specific way. It seems to me the way you conduct your journey will ultimately determine your destination.
While it is important to enjoy the journey and it is desirable to achieve, and to accomplish and even to acquire in this life, that cannot and should not be the entire purpose of the journey. Nor I suppose, should the entire purpose be to have our lives resemble an ongoing party. Although on the surface that seems quite fun. Go ahead and pursue the big things and the fun things, but not at the expense of the little but important things and not in a way that puts your chosen destination in jeopardy.
Yesterday a hard lesson was driven home to me, well a couple of things actually. Quite frankly the journey matters a great deal, but determining your eternal destination is the most important decision you will ever make. It is only when you have decided where your destination will be that you can plan your journey accordingly.
Don’t put off what really matters for the things that are simply desirable. Enjoy your family and friends, and nurture those important relationships. Build your journey around what God would have you do.
To say that the journey is more important than the destination is to say what you are experiencing on earth is more important that where you will spend eternity when you reach your destination. It denies the significance of your destination.
Perhaps the most important thing is to always remember your destination. Don’t get sidetracked on your journey for you NEVER know when you will achieve your goal and it is important that you have worked to get to the right destination.

Characteristics of God

Who is God?
I read something on Facebook that gave me food for thought. I read something to the effect of “Don’t just tell them what God can do for them, tell them who God is”.
Wow, that certainly is something to think about. How often do we tell others of the wonderful things that God can and will do for them but fail to tell them who God is? Think about it………… why would you turn your life over to a God you didn’t know?
Another reason that this is beneficial to me is when times are tough we tend to forget just who God is and what He is capable of.
I want to find out more about who God is!
I started at the beginning Genesis 1:1. I find it interesting that the Bible doesn’t attempt to prove that God exists, it assumes His existence from the start. The very first statement in the Bible says “In the beginning God created the heavens and earth.
• Isaiah 55:8-9- God does not think like us. Ours is not the last word on right or wrong, so don’t rely on our own understanding, rely on God.
• Romans 11:33-36, Proverbs 3: 19, 20– God is wisdom. God governs His creation with justice, love and power. We strive to gain wisdom in all we do, getting college education, work experience, life experience, not that any of that is bad…..but the wisdom we should be seeking with the same fervor is God’s wisdom.
• Psalm 50:21 lets us know that God is not like us.
• Psalm 90:4- God is not limited by time. Our world is a physical world with physical limitations. God dwells in the spiritual realm and is not limited by the same things we are. Time is irrelevant to God, He transcends Timex!
• 1 Corinthians 1:25- God is not dumb or weak…..”for the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.
• Psalm 145:18 – God is near and we can go to Him in truth. God wants us to talk to Him and He wants to be involved in all that we are and all that we do. He wants to know us and be known intimately. Sometimes I think we tend to want God to know us intimately so He can help us but we don’t make the same effort to get to know him intimately.
• Psalm 147:5- God is mighty in power, and His Unchanging Omniscient understanding has no limits. Think about this. God’s power, He spoke creation into existence, He fixes things for us on a prayer request if it is His will. I believe that He wants us to know of His power and to rely on it.
Just a few other characteristics of God. Keep in mind this list is by no means inclusive. No list could every contain the character of God.
Infinite- Romans 11:33
Omnipotent- Jeremiah32:17,18,26,27
Good- Psalm 119:65-72
Love- 1 John 4: 7-10
Unchanging- Psalm 102:25-28
Just- Psalm 75:1-7
Holy- Revelation 4:8-11
Omniscient- Psalm 139:1-6
Merciful- Deuteronomy 4:29-31
Sovereign- 1 Chronicles: 29:11-13
Faithful- Psalm 89:1-8
Full of Grace- Ephesians 1: 5-8
Comforter- 2 Corinthians 1: 3-4

I do not know one other person with such an impressive list. I believe I shall follow God.
