Never is a lesson learned as well as when it is learned up close and personal. We have all heard that in this life there will be disappointment and we have also heard that God is pretty good as a doorman. But what about when He not only closes a door but you can’t find the window that’s supposed to be open and next you find out that He has blown the building up too?
I know I know, there are unseen opportunities ahead and doors or windows that haven’t even been built yet could provide things I haven’t even dared to dream. Sometimes (like now) all that comes to mind is heaven must be a mighty drafty place.
I am thinking on the scripture “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:35,38-39
What a beautiful verse that gives us a glimpse of the depth of the love Christ holds for us.
I am asking myself, according to this verse is God the kind of God who constructs barriers and builds obstacles. Isn’t He supposed to destroy barriers and overcome obstacles?
I think I can wrap myself in the comforting quilt of god and know that what God offers is so much more than it first appears. A locked door is more than it seems. Look at what Jesus said in scripture when dealing with a locked door.
“When it was evening, . . . and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked . . . Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you’” (John 20:19). “A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them, although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you’” (John 20:26).
Notice the last words, drink this in, “peace be with you”.
While the shut door may seem a barrier to us, it is nothing to God. God is unceasingly faithful and loves us with a love that is unconditional, why would his character change now? He is not going to let a locked door stop Him because what is impenetrable to us isn’t to Him. God does shut and lock doors, make no mistake about that. But He also doesn’t just open windows and doors that have been tightly shut, He bursts through like it’s not even there and blows off the roof if necessary. That’s how much we matter to our Master.
So rest while you consider your locked door. It could be the opportunity of a lifetime. Rest there, I think I will.
